TAGLIALATELLA GALLERIES NEW YORK
Taglialatella Galleries is pleased to present Animals by shelby and sandy, the artist duo’s first solo exhibition in New York City.
With Animals, their debut solo exhibition with Taglialatella Galleries, shelby and sandy revisit their nostalgia and love for nature and wildlife. Guests will witness aquatic creatures, jungle cats and long-stemmed birds come to life within a fun, imaginative world created through a shared child-like joy reflected in the artists’ signature style of vibrant colors and playful compositions.
Despite the youthful aesthetic, the artists have pushed themselves and their work to elevated terrain. The Animals collection incorporates various mediums, from acrylic paintings with reflective and mirrored glass elements to dimensional and sculptural works, as well as their most recognizable medium they call the “layered paintings” - levels of imagery layered on floating plexiglass panels above canvas to create one figure. The duo will also release two limited edition signed prints on paper, available exclusively through Taglialatella Galleries.
Why animals, shelby and sandy?
animals are fascinating
they each have a unique size, shape and texture
animals are also all different colors;
flamingos are pink, lobsters are red, lions are orange, giraffes are yellow, crocodiles are green,
elephants are blue, octopuses are purple, horses are brown, and spiders are black
no matter how big or small, boxy or round, hairy or smooth, dark or light an animal is, every living thing is important and special
- shelby and sandy
shelby and sandy are artists, best friends, and brothers from Los Angeles. Their motto is “shelby and sandy are nice.” The duo creates vibrant yet minimal Pop-Art inspired work, often referencing cartoons, movies, toys, superheroes, and people or places from their childhood.
After graduating from the University of Southern California the brothers began to formally collaborate in 2013. Since then, the duo has generated an extraordinary following online and built a massive collector base without traditional gallery representation. With over 500k followers on Instagram, their artwork is coveted by celebrities, brands, museums, and collectors all over the world. They have created artwork for Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Mariah Carey, Bradley Cooper, Drake, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Lucy Hale, and Rachel Zoe to name a few. They have also collaborated with Warner Brothers, Louis Vuitton, Nike, Adidas, Crocs, Disney, Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the LA Dodgers, Coachella and more.
