Taglialatella Galleries is pleased to present layers, a solo exhibition of new works by Los Angeles-based artist duo Shelby and Sandy.
Known for their vibrant, nostalgia-infused paintings and sculptures, Shelby and Sandy transform the visual language of childhood into bold contemporary artworks.
layers debuts an entirely new body of hand-created artworks featuring paintings with layered panels, constructed as 3-dimensional works that engage the viewer, adapting the space around the imagery by activating an interactive experience with the compositions.
Drawing inspiration from the cartoons, superheroes, iconic athletes, and pop culture that defined their youth, the duo brings richly layered compositions to life with saturated color, graphic contour lines, and playful symbolism.
Blending elements of Pop Art, Minimalism, Surrealism, and classic animation, their work evokes a sense of familiarity while reimagining beloved cultural icons through a distinctly contemporary lens.
