TAGLIALATELLA GALLERIES NEW YORK
Taglialatella Galleries is proud to present Cabin Fever, a solo exhibition by artist Joe Iurato.
Ready to be out of the woods?
In Cabin Fever Iurato has created a body of work inspired by living and communicating digitally; thematically comprised of whimsical and often child-like imagery, now visibly interrupted and distorted as everyone's way of life abruptly came to be in 2020. Cabin Fever features the artist’s primary medium of painting with multi-layered stencils and aerosol, while boldly highlighting Iurato’s penchant for multidisciplinary expertise. The show includes an array of works: editions on paper, photography, original paintings on canvas, and of course his trademark wood assemblages.
“This body of work is my crossroads, and a quick run down each path to explore what lies ahead. It’s an unfiltered, visceral reaction to a life event that I’ll never be able to explain fully.” - Joe Iurato
In addition, Cabin Fever will debut the first NFT by Iurato X Tag NFTs. In partnership with Blockparty, Taglialatella Galleries will display the limited-edition animation in-store, offering collectors the opportunity view and purchase the first non-fungible token minted by Joe Iurato. On-site instruction will be available for guests who would like to purchase the NFT with Ethereum or via Credit Card, in person or online through Blockparty.
Cabin Fever runs from June 17th through July 12th, 2021
ARTIST STATEMENT:
The work for this show was created during the period of time we began emerging from a full-fledged pandemic and into a new way of life. So, let’s say March through June of 2021, a span of about four months. This is the vaccine era, the first hugs and handshakes in over a year, skyrocketing airfare, and N95 masks restocked at the hardware store. We are fumbling and bumbling our way back to normal routines - but what we’ve gone through, how we’ve adapted, the ways we changed - it’s hard not to recognize that “normal” will have its alterations. And perhaps, indefinitely.
For months on end during the heart of the pandemic, inexplicably, I couldn’t create a damn thing. No matter how badly I needed art to happen, if only for the sake of therapy and sanity, I remained totally and completely blank. Between the fear, uncertainty and unsettling times, I guess it was just too much to process creatively, and so I retreated. And waited. And waited. And then gave up.
Later on, I realized all that time away from the studio wasn’t wasted. It had been a time of observation for me. And those observations are what eventually formed the narratives for “Cabin Fever”. This body of work is my crossroads, and a quick rundown each path to explore what lies ahead. It’s an unfiltered, visceral reaction to a life event that I’ll never be able to explain fully. But I know it’s taking me towards something new. It’s the domination of digital communication, the longing to travel, the way we view ourselves, and a somewhat new outlook on life. I guess this is what happens when you can’t leave your home for a year. Who knows.

Born from the abrupt changes in our way of life during the pandemic; living and communicating almost entirely digitally, Joe Iurato has created "Cabin Fever". Thematically comprised of whimsical and often child-like imagery, "Cabin Fever" reflects the artist's thoughts, emotions and struggles with a multitude of unfamiliar feelings brought on from a global disruption to our everyday existence.
Joe Iurato would like to acknowledge animator Joe Andriola and sound designer Abel Okugawa for their crucial contribution to his debut NFTs Cabin Fever 1 & Cabin Fever 2.
